History

Innovating for clinicians and patients has been the primary focus of WillowWood since the company was founded in Ohio in 1907. Partnered with Blue Sea Capital, our sole purpose is to be the industry leader enabling the best clinical outcomes for amputees.

Founded as Ohio Willow Wood in 1907 by William E. Arbogast, a bilateral amputee, WillowWood has grown into a global leader in the development, manufacture and distribution of prosthetic products for amputees. What started as one man carving and curing willow wood for prosthetic use has evolved into an international company that still retains its roots in Ohio. WillowWood now has a network of over twenty distributors worldwide and the fourth generation of Arbogasts remain very active in the company.

WillowWood’s rebranding reflects the desire to build on our leadership position providing prosthetic liners and now innovating in transformative areas such as powered prostheses, myoelectrics and thermoformable materials. Our partnership with Blue Sea Capital enables us to also acquire leading-edge technologies that complement our products and solutions, as reflected by our acquisition of Xtremity in March 2024.

The drive to provide the best means WillowWood is constantly listening and seeking ways to optimize outcomes for our practitioner customers and their patients alike!

“WillowWood exists to level the playing field for all people with mobility issues through a passion for innovation and a refusal to accept the status quo.”

Ryan Arbogast, President
